Wow!

Have we seen an increase in the U.K tho? Seems like they have totally disappeared from a lot of former strongholds. Absolutely ridiculous that we have got to the point that they are now so uncommon as to be worthy of publishing on the bird news services!

Be interesting to know if there was any relationship between the population of Collared Dove (sometimes called Collared Turtle Dove), which seems to be doing fine, and that of Turtle Dove. They seem to have similar niches and the overall impression over the last 50 years seems to be a replacement of one by the other. Hunting doesn't seem to be the only factor, especially in these islands

Apparently Collared Doves declined by 23% (3022 to 2022) after already starting to decline around the start of the 21st century. Therefore it wouldn't appear that is a large part of the decline. The habitat work being undertaken to help Turtle Doves is fantastic as it will benefit other farmland birds, but won't make much difference if it isn't done on a massive scale
