Oh I'm glad it's not just me then, was beginning to think the actual link was faulty.
 
You might look at photos of a Virginia Rail to see if that looks like what you saw. It has a partialy red, curved bill and reddish legs. Not so grey though but perhaps in some plummages.
 
I amconfidant that this bird is NOT a rail. More like a coot with red features as I mentioned. I cannot find a picture in any of my research so far, and I have never seen this bird anywhere before.
