I have recently bought a new computer running Vista. I use Mozilla Firefox with BirdForum as my home page. Although I click on the 'Remember Me' box at log in my details are never remembered subsequently. This has only happened since I have had Vista as the O/S. On my old computer running 98Se this never happened irrespective of whether I logged out or simply closed BF down. Andy Bright has suggested checking the security settings. These are the same as I was using on 98SE - medium high: the problem persists. Has anyone else had this problem with Vista ? If so I would be grateful for any suggestions as to how this irritating problem can be solved. The same thing happens if I switch to Internet Explorer.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Roy, I am using VISTA as the OS on my PC computer also and to my chagrin, Microsoft has seen fit to configure VISTA to dump cookies and temporary internet files at every shut down.

Using Windows XP 2nd edition, you had the choice of manually dumping cookies or temporary internet files IF you chose to.

I deleted my Temporary Internet Files regularly using Windows XP but did NOT delete the Cookies.

Now that I am using Windows VISTA, Microsoft has made that decision for me, by automatically deleting cookies and temporary internet files when I shut down my computer.

Annoying, but there are so many annoying security features in VISTA that they slow down your computer and make getting online a daily hassle for me (I am on a slow Dial-Up connection here since Broadband is not available)

I dont have that problem. All cookies remain, however many times I shut down IE.
At a guess you have a security setting that is not saving your id as a cookie. I domt know Firefox, but there must be a setting set to 'high' that sould be 'medium'.

Try downloading Roboform its free, and remembers passwords and logons with Vista installed. Saves up to twenty passwords - any more and you have to pay. I've had it on my computers for years.
