Am I missing something - I cannot see how to scroll through all the entries. Perhaps I have the wrong sort of snow on my screen.

It would be neat if there was a link to the relevant gallery.

Just discovered they are linked, good stuff!

Thanks Ian - I've just looked through them all and now have a short-list of seven. At least the snow has stopped, but now I have some crazy reindeer rushing around my screen. How can I make a sensible decision with this distraction?

Can I just say what a truly fantastic set of entries for this Dec comp. There are some very, very talented people on this Forum and choosing just one entry was so very difficult.I would like to say how much I enjoyed viewing,a lot of work and effort has gone into the making of these cards.
Could I make a suggestion here,as the standards are so high ,and can give a lot of pleasure to many people, why not ,with of course the owners permission have them printed, esp the ones without 2003 on them( I have only just thought of that),or remove the actual date as such, and sell them to Bird Forum members, and donate the money to a charity.Say an overseas bird cause ,or the such like.Or for next year, ask people to make a card, which again Bird Forum could print and sell in time for Xmas, and again donate the proceeds to a charity. They are such lovely pictures it is a shame not to share them with others.
Christine.

This was HARD!

As others have said, there is so much talent and creativity in these photos! We're pretty lucky, I think, to have so many wonderful photographers on this forum who are willing to share their efforts with the rest of us.

I finally voted for one that made me laugh....

But I wanted to vote about 8 times!

I'm sure it'd be a big project, but I think Christine's on to something here. I really like the idea of contributing the proceeds to a bird/nature/conservation group somehow.

Or perhaps use the proceeds to help Steve and the gang actually PAY for the forum??? :)

Even tho I'm an art-stamper and made all my cards this year, I'd just have to buy!

It's in the stew pot Christine.

I like the idea myself in principle but I don't think we're geared up for it at the moment, there are so many projects already being worked upon. It's something to be considered for the future though. Thanks for making the suggestion.

I would like to say that all the photos in the compertition are excellent, it's been hard to know who to vote for.
But it would have been very helpful if the name of who the entry was posted by were displayed in the voteing booth along with the title.

Good luck to everyone.

Janet.

Surely it's better not to make this too obvious?

Just shows you can't please everyone :h?:

We had calls for the entries to be more anonymous so they could be judged on merit rather than who submitted them. We went part way in that direction this time by excluding comments from the entries prior to voting and omitting the names from the voting booth.

We are considering whether to retain this format for all future theme challenges / prize comps.

Quite possibly future prize comps entries will be entirely anonymous until after voting, if we can work a way to do it.

The monthly theme challenges may revert to our normal format of members name and comments being attached.

If anyone has any thoughts or preferences on this then we wouldn't mind hearing them. Our aim is to make the themes / comps as attractive as possible for both entrants and viewing members.

Thanks,Ian,do you know we share the same birthday.
Happy Birthday ,Ian.
We are on the cusp of Saggitarius/Capricorn,so we are really special.
Christine.

I'm sorry if I caused any offence in my posting, I now understand why the name were not displayed.
And reading Ianf reply I totaly agree that it was the right way to go about voteing.
Once again no offence was intended.

Janet.

It was an interesting experiment for the prize competition but personally I prefer having the discussion as we go along. I found I lost interest in the competition this month because I couldn't discuss the birds or photographic (and computer enhancement) techniques. I went back through all the entries before voting - but I didn't follow the thread as avidly as I would normally.

I guess that's it's the community thing that makes the competition for me. Discussing entries is a very important part of the whole "Bird Forum" experience - and I found this to be particularly true with the seasonal competition. Christmas should be fun ... but the silence around the comp seemed (just a tad) depressing.

Helen
