I had no success with my iphone on a scope but my wife using an inexpensive Olympus mirrorless camera had great results. So much depends on the autofocus capabilities of the "camera" used with the scope. No need to add more magnification for a scope that is already providing as much image magnification as possible. More magnification also magnifies image shake in the scope.

Many thanks for your advice. I don’t think I’m going to bother with the magnification extender. Thank you.
