Waterthrush, Niagara Falls (1 Viewer)

Help. I have just returned from a holiday in Niagara Falls. I saw a Waterthrush in bushes about 20 metres up river from the Horseshoe Falls. I only saw the bird briefly, but was struck by is very clear white eyestripe which appeared to turn reddish as it approached the bird's bill. My immediate thought was Louisiana but I am not sure whether you would get this bird so close to the falls.

Regards

Louisiana Waterthrushes are an earlier migrant, so in the Niagara area at this time it was far more likely to be a Northern Waterthrush. However, without a photo to consider I couldn't tell you what it was for sure.

Agree with ntbirdman. Northern Waterthrush is far more likely at this time of year than Louisiana Waterthrush at that latitude. In South Florida, nearly all Louisiana Waterthrush have finished pushing through the state by the end of September...
