the todmorden waxwings showed to a few meters in the carpark by halifax road some great views. later on in keighley shopping found 9 in the trees near the market

This “report” follows on from a very disappointing sighting this morning (just a mile or so in to Derbyshire from Greater Manchester), a really disappointing experience.

However, as I finished my lunchtime butty, the RBA App. made that funny farty noise and reported 25 Waxwings in Hyde.
Only 20 minutes up the M60 and M67 later and I was enjoying a much nicer experience.

The birds were resting in poplar trees on one side of the road and feeding in rowan trees next to where I had parked my car. 20+ flew over my head to access their lunch.

On Sunday morning I saw one bird on an unidentified "cotoneaster" type of plant in a garden in Chisworth (Derbyshire) where I couldn’t stop/park.
On Sunday afternoon I saw a flock of 20+ on a suburban street in Hyde (Greater Manchester) resting at the top of poplar trees and swooping down occasionally and feeding on rowan berries.

Just checked this morning, Todmorden, all the Guelder Rose ( Viburnham opulus Xanthocarpum Berries have now been eaten ) on Myrtle Street. There's just a handful. Of the White Rowan ( Sorbus Joseph Rock ) on Wellington Road left. There were 7 Waxwings nearby, there's just 1 more bush left in the Bus station ( V o xanthocarpum left ) maximum number of Waxwings was 38 .regards Brian Leecy

Had a few more Waxwings locally with one sporting colour rings. After some enquiries it had been rung in Elgin Scotland on 15th November and seen again in Haslingden Lancashire on 25th December.

The Waxwings seem to be avoiding Lancashire. How are numbers and sightings elsewhere?

Flocks of them 'round these in parts in County Durham.

Not as many as in December as I think many have moved south but they're still turning up. Flocks in two neighbouring villages over the last couple of days: hornbeam and hawthorn trees.

Going off reports on Twitter and the like, it must have been one of the best years for a while.
