Where do the American coots go? (1 Viewer)

I regularly visit my local lake near Los Angeles and there were lots of coots. It’s not an exaggeration to say there were more than 500. One day in late April when I visited, they were gone. I mean, gone. Poof! They just disappeared overnight. Only 6 lonely little coots remained. Where did they go?

In winter lots of older coots end up in Arizona, Baja California, and the Yucatán peninsula particularly.
