where have all the birds gone ???? (1 Viewer)

I am 6 miles away from chesterfield in derbyshire , a few miles away from junction 30 of the M1 motorway.
Here is list of the birds i normally see in my small garden and the grassed area in front of my bungalow , i have 6 different feeders in my garden.

1 goldfinch
2 bluetit
3 coaltit
4 jenny wren
5 tall skinny and little fat robins
6 chaffinch
7 blackbirds
8 greenfinch
9 bullfinch
10 collared dove
11 pigeon
12 starling
13 sparrows
14 magpie
15 sparrow hawk

Now here the thing .... everything seems to have vanished , over the past month or so i have only seen the odd robin or sparrow , has anyone else noticed that birds have suddenly stopped appearing .

The enclosed photo is a few years old but the sparrow hawk is still around its not the reason other birds have gone awol.
I showed the photo to a man showing his owl collection at a local fair and he said .... i know still area you dont have a sparrow hawk in your garden , why would he say that.
I had the last laugh though , it was a red hot day and the birds were out in the open , no shelter and no water so i phoned the RSPB

In the winter tits will join up into quite large flocks, often with other small birds and that flock will move around the local area. Once spring starts the winter tit flocks will disperse and birds will take up individual territories.

If you see individual cases of cruelty towards birds the organisation to contact is the RSPCA. The RSPB is not a specialist anti-cruelty organisation.

It could be that they’re getting a “better deal” elsewhere, happened to me many years ago when a new neighbour moved in! 😩

I forgot to mention that their is a small police station across from where the local event was taking place and i went to tell them about the owls situation and it them who sent for somebody ..... a phone call from the police carries more weight .

BTW the sparrow hawk did not actually catch the goldfinch it flew into my patio window and died whilst fleeing the hawk , i put it on the patio and very quickly fetched my camera trap as it was still around

See especially pages 18-19 (20-21 in the pdf). I, too, recently saw a bird (male Great Tit) that had hit a glass wall (of an underground entrance).

Could just be coincidence or whatever I suppose, but I've noticed a significantly fewer sightings of Buzzard and Red Kite in my are over the past few weeks. I've also recieved reports from local people of a marked drop in gull numbers at favoured sites. Does anyone know how much of an effect this bird flu is having on UK raptors?
