Who said owls dont hunt mink? (1 Viewer)

Stunning shot but it does not say if the owl killed the Mink but if Eagle Owls do kill Foxes then Mink should nt be a problem at all!

yeah it was hunting all day look at the condition of the mink also did you see the size of the egyptian mongoose the eagle owl killed? which is far more formitable than any mink. I have been around them in person they are lil tyrants. They are more snake/monitor killers than birds. But still powerful lil monsters. They age HUGE. About 3x the size of a mink. I can't believe an owl killed one.

I am not saying it did not kill it but there is no solid evidence it has to be honest. The owl was hunting all day yet at some point if emerged with a Mink.

That Mongoose is big though. I suppose the Owl must have caught it unaware but even then all I see is an owl with a dead mongoose. No evidence to suggest the owl killed it.

he said the owl vanished for a bit i assume he means it was killing the mink

I dont think owls will just pick up dead animals and claim it is theres do they?

Also the mink looks ssuper healthy the mongoose u can see is all clawed up

U can contact the man who took it to get more info, there is live footage of an owl killing a huge skunk on utube

Mink have few predators because of there fierce, aggressive style of defence. Wolf and coyote will attempt to make a meal out of the mink, but often give up after a few nasty bites to the face. Suprisingly, the most successful predator of the mink is the great horned owl. Targeting juvenile and small female mink, the owl desends from darkness in complete silence and sinks its talons into the victom before it knows it’s being attacked. The owl does not always come out on top, however; the mink's powerful jaws can still deliver a crushing bite that drives off the owl half the time.

This isn't exactly true on the wolf part, I saw a wolf kill a fisher on tv, and ive seen dogs kill mink very fast by crushing them in their jaws. A wolf has like a thousand pounds of bite power if its not a pup and as an experienced killer the mink will never get away. People exagerate the power of things because they see it fight off a youngster or an inexperienced animal. A wolverine or honey badger lives up to its name in a way but even they are exagerated because both have been killed by predators also.
