Wilson's snipe? (1 Viewer)

I saw this Wilson's snipe (e.g. last photo on the left) from a large distance between short-billed dowitchers. I see a browner plumages and stripes, but they are not as clear as I would expect?

Can anyone confirm or comment?

THanks,
ROnald

I see what you are seeing, esp. the bird in the middle of the first photo, which appears to be shorter and shorter necked than the dowitchers and appears to have some striping on the back. But I can't really be sure from these photos that it's not a juvenile dowitcher, which would be browner than adults at this time of year.

Best,
Jim

Sorry for the confusion:
photo 1: middle one: striped back, shorter neck, longer beak, 'crunched', warmer browner plumage (dowitchers grayer), slimmer
photo 2: 2nd from right
photo 3: left one

I believe they are all Dowitchers I'm afraid. From your descriptions of the individual in each photo, I believe it is just a dowitcher in a slightly different pose to the others. Snipe would look more squat and rounded with more obvious tramlines on the back and more colour contrast all over.

All Dowitchers.

Agreed that they are all dowitchers. The browner and more crisp-looking plumage, if not a lighting artifact, could indicate that the bird is a juvenile among several adults.
