Although I don't have access to the complete paper, John Boyd's comments suggest that Escalante et al reaffirm the split of Geothlypis chiriquensis, G auricularis and G velata from G aequinoctialis (already recognised by IOC), and also propose the split of G bairdi from G semiflava:
