your fave bird which regularly comes to britain. (1 Viewer)

Has to be the sedge warbler for me, it was the first warbler I ever identified and hearing them brings back fond memories and tells me summer is on the way.

wot Christine sed (Swallows) , and Hobby

of the regulars - Marsh Harriers, seeing them glide slowly over the reedbeds makes any day in my opinion. And& any of the owls

Being "new" I haven't seen many rarities, but waxwings have been the best so far.
The excitement caused when they appeared was incredible.
I was telling everyone I met, and was greeted with some strange looks and whispered chuckles.
I have to admit that seeing them has given me the desire to go out "hunting"

I saw some housemartins while on holiday in Yorkshire, and they are impressive little birds as well.

If I was pushed to name by favourite UK bird ( or even threatened with a big stick! ) I'd have to plump for Leach's. To see them flying past in a howling gale that's almost blowing you over is one of the great sights in the country. Otherwise, any species will do for me, but I do have a soft spot for Starlings!!

This is SUCH a hard question!!!! :smoke:

Though TBH my first thought was Spoonbill - I wanted to see one so much for years and years and finally caught up with one at Druridge Pools on 8th May 2007. Everything was perfect that day - warm day, first Orange Tip Butterflies and Ladies Smock flowers were out, bees were buzzing, the air was still and free from all human noise and to go with my Spoonbill lifer I also had my first Grasshopper Warbler reeling away in the shrubs behind me :t: Perfect! B :)

Love my Swifts too mind - they ARE the sound of summer o:) Oh, and Cuckoos are a big favourite too! Actually I'm going to stop now....there's not a lot I don't like! :-O

Rarer bird for me has to be Pallas's Warbler, like the individual in Kent in 2007 slightly less rare but nonetheless stunning in every way is the Redstart, the males are just wonderful to see.

Here are the seasonal regulars I most looked forward to when I lived in East Lothian many years ago--
Spring: Cuckoos (how is it these iconic harbingers of spring have been overlooked so far?} & roding Woodcocks
Fall/winter: Whooper Swans, Pink-footed Geese, Golden Plover, Ruff, Jack Snipe, Short-eared Owls.

Edit: Oops, I just noticed that the Cuckoo has already been mentioned after all.

My favorite of all is the Buzzard for all sorts of reasons that I will not bore you with. On a day to day basis I derive great enjoyment from just seeing the common tweets and watching their behaviour.

I think mine is now the short eared owl. I kept looking for them and couldn't find them now keep seeing them and a great bird. Tires me out when i run all over the place chasing them to photograph them.:t:
