Identification
61cm. It has a long black, white tipped crest, rufous head and neck, and heavily barred black below. Both sexes are similar. The young are duller and have unmarked underparts.
Distribution
Only found on Java, Indonesia.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
It was formerly placed in the genus Spizaetus.
Habitat
Inhabit humid tropical forest, mostly at mountain and highland, prefers dense forest with undulating hills.
Behaviour
Breeding
The female usually lays one egg in nest high on top of forest trees.
Diet
The diet includes birds, lizards, fruit bats and mammals.
