Identification
Dark, brownish-black back, yellow eye, red eye-ring, dull pink legs. Similar to the Black Oystercatcher of the Northern Pacific coast.
Distribution
Breeds from northern Peru to Tierra del Fuego and Falkland Islands; winters to Uruguay.
Taxonomy
A monotypic species.
Habitat
Rocky shores.
Behaviour
It nests on the ground or on rocks.
