Identification
This is a small bird 10cm in length. The adult male has scarlet plumage and brown wings. The bill is pink, and there its eyering is yellow. It can be found with other species such as the Red-cheeked Cordon-bleu. Its song is a rising chick-pea-pea-pea.
Distribution
Sub-Saharan Africa It had been introduced to Egypt, but is now extinct there.
