Identification
13 - 14cm. A small Vanga with a tit-like appearance:
Male
- Grey forehead to nape
- Black patch from base of bill extending backwards broadly around eye with narrow white border above
- Grey upperparts with rufous rump and rufous uppertail-coverts
- Rufous median and lesser upperwing-coverts
- Rufous tail
- White cheek and ear-coverts
- Black chin and throat
- Black eye
- White underparts
Female
- Duller grey forehead to nape
- Off-white eyering
- Olive-brown upperparts
- Brick-red rump and uppertail-coverts
- Red tail with dark brown inner webs
- Buffy lower ear-coverts, cheek and side of neck
- Whitish throat with broad buffy breastband

Various types of native forest, adjacent second growth. Occurs from sea-level up to 2000m.
