Identification
Size: 17 cm
Brown medium sized Lark with mottled upperparts. Short crest. Has distinct rufous shoulder triangle of lesser wing coverts and rufous ear coverts surrounded by white supercilium meeting white half collar and white throat. Pale yellow bill with dark tip. Dark brown iris and orange feet.
Similar Species
Distinguished from Eurasian Skylark by rufous shoulder. From Oriental Skylark by larger size, whiter trailing edge to wings and call.
Call is similar to Eurasian Skylark.
Distribution
S Sakhalin, S Kurils, Japan and Ryukyu Is. May occur in China along S & E coasts when on passage.
Taxonomy
Some authors treat it as a race of Eurasian Skylark.
Habitat
Grasslands, Shrublands, Shoreline, Marine intertidal or in wetlands. Breeding mainly in Grasslands.
Behaviour
Similar to Eurasian Skylark.
