Identification
- Green back
- Gray underparts
- Darker gray head
- Bold white eye-ring.
Juveniles are duller than adults.
Similar Species
Differs from allopatric Seram Imperial Pigeon in being darker grey, especially the head and neck. This accentuates its thicker white eye ring which is prominent.
Distribution
Endemic to Southeast Asia: found in Northern Moluccas and Kofiau Island (Papuan Islands), Indonesia.
Taxonomy
This taxon was formerly included in White-eyed Imperial Pigeon together with Seram Imperial Pigeon. Confusingly, this (latter) combined taxon may also be called "Spectacled Imperial Pigeon" [3].
Subspecies
This is a monotypic species.
Habitat
Moist lowland forests and mangrove forests.
Behaviour
Singles, pairs, or small groups forage in fruiting trees.
Vocalizations
Typically a descending series of six deep hooting notes: “hoot-hoot-hoot-hoot-hoot-hoot.”
