Trogon melanocephalus

Identification

Black head, upperparts, chest, yellow underparts, black and white barred tail, black eye, white eyering, grey bill, legs and feet.

Distribution

Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and Nicaragua.

Taxonomy

There are 2 subspecies:

  • T m melanocephalus
  • T m illaetabilis

Habitat

Forests.

Behaviour

The diet includes caterpillars.
