Phylloscopus reguloides

Identification

10·5–12 cm (4-4¾ in)

  • Long pale yellow supercilium
  • Dark olive upperparts
  • Two pale wing bars

Distribution

Asia: found from northern India and Pakistan to southern China, Myanmar and Vietnam.

Taxonomy

Claudia's Leaf Warbler and Hartert's Leaf Warbler were formerly included in this species.

Subspecies

There are 4 subspecies[1]:

  • P. r. kashmiriensis
  • Breeds in the northwestern Himalayas from northern Pakistan (Murree Hills) and Kashmir east to northern India (Simla E to Garhwal); winters in foothills
  • P. r. reguloides:
  • Himalayas of northern India to Nepal, southern Tibet and southern China (south-western Sichuan)
  • P. r. assamensis:
  • North-eastern India (Assam) to northern Myanmar and south-western China (north-western Yunnan)
  • P. r. ticehursti:
  • Southern Vietnam (Langbian Plateau)

Habitat

Moist montanes, broadleaved evergreen forest up to 2550 m.

Behaviour

Diet

Their main diet consists of small arthropods and larvae. The sometimes eat small berries in the autumn.

Breeding

They build a ball shaped nest made from grass and stems, is placed in a recess in a bank, tree-trunk or stump. The clutch contains 4-5 eggs.
