Identification
27-28 cm. Rufous upperparts, olive brown underparts, wings and tail, streaked buff head, neck, mantle and chest, long, slightly decurved, and hooked bill, dark grey upper mandible, pale greyish-horn lower.

Some authorities split the Lafresnaye's Woodcreeper Xiphorhynchus guttatoides and/or Dusky-billed Woodcreeper Xiphorhynchus eytoni from this species.
Habitat
Humid forest and woodland.
Behaviour
The diet includes ants, insects and spiders.
It builds a bark-lined nest in a tree hole or hollow stump; 2 white eggs are laid.
