Some authorities split the Lafresnaye's Woodcreeper Xiphorhynchus guttatoides and/or Dusky-billed Woodcreeper Xiphorhynchus eytoni from this species.

Humid forest and woodland.
Behaviour
Diet
The diet includes ants, insects and spiders.
Breeding
It builds a bark-lined nest in a tree hole or hollow stump. The clutch consists of 2 white eggs.
Vocalisation
Call: - a loud chev-re chev-re.
