Distribution
Australasia: found in the Loyalty Islands, Vanuatu, Samoa and the Solomon Islands.

- M. c. lifuensis:
- Loyalty Islands
- M. c. cardinalis:
- Southern Vanuatu
- M. c. tenuis:
- Northern Vanuatu and Banks Group
- M. c. tucopiae:
- Tikopia Island (north-east of Banks Group)
- M. c. nigriventris:
- Samoa (Upolu, Savai'i and Tutuila)
- M. c. santaecrucis:
- Solomon Islands (Santa Cruz and Torres)
- M. c. sanfordi :
- Rennell (south-eastern Solomon Islands)
- M. c. pulcherrima:
- Solomon Islands (San Cristóbal and Ugi)
Habitat
Moist lowland forests and mangroves and coastal scrub.
