Distribution

Australasia: found in the Loyalty Islands, Vanuatu, Samoa and the Solomon Islands.

Taxonomy

Subspecies^[1]

There are 8 subspecies:

• M. c. lifuensis:

• Loyalty Islands

• M. c. cardinalis:

• Southern Vanuatu

• M. c. tenuis:

• Northern Vanuatu and Banks Group

• M. c. tucopiae:

• Tikopia Island (north-east of Banks Group)

• M. c. nigriventris:

• Samoa (Upolu, Savai'i and Tutuila)

• M. c. santaecrucis:

• Solomon Islands (Santa Cruz and Torres)

• M. c. sanfordi :

• Rennell (south-eastern Solomon Islands)

• M. c. pulcherrima:

• Solomon Islands (San Cristóbal and Ugi)

Habitat

Moist lowland forests and mangroves and coastal scrub.
