Description

Caspian Tern is the sole member of this genus.

Taxonomy

Hydroprogne is a monotypic genus in the family Laridae.
The authorities that currently recognize Hydroprogne include all those that have been updated recently (AOU, SACC, Clements, Handbook of birds of the word, IOC[1]). Other authorities still include it in the genus Sterna.
