Western Africa: Mauritania, Senegal, Senegambia, The Gambia, Chad, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo
Eastern Africa: Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda
Taxonomy
Subspecies

- Central African Republic to Chad, southern Sudan, Uganda and western Kenya
- E. c. elegans:
- Sudan (Darfur and Kordofan to Sennar)
