Central Africa: found in Sierra Leone, Gabon, Zaire, Angola, Sudan, Uganda and Tanzania

Taxonomy

Peliperdix vs. Francolinus

Sibley & Monroe (1996) placed this species in the genus Peliperdix, but this genus has not been recognized by Clements (2007) or Howard & Moore (2003), and the Opus follows in this consensus.

• Sierra Leone to Gabon, north-western Zaire and Angola

• F. l. schubotzi:

• Western Zaire to extreme south-western Sudan, western Uganda and north-western Tanzania
