- Camarhynchus parvulus
Identification
11 cm; has a small rounded bill
Male in terminal plumage has black hood, olive-brownish upperside and pale underside; streaking is usually weak. Female is mostly olive-brownish to greyish, and it may be slightly more streaked. Bill is dark in breeding male varying to yellowish in nonbreeding birds. Eyes and legs are dark.
Distribution
Endemic to the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador.
Taxonomy
Two subspecies are recognized:
- C. p. parvulus - most larger islands in Galapagos
- C. p. salvini - St. Christobal island
Habitat
Forests and areas with taller shrubs.
Behaviour
Insects seems to be a major food source but also feeds on seeds and other plant materials including nectar. Food is mostly obtained in trees but may also be found on the ground.
