Identification

10cm. Deep blue above, sides of head and neck, prominent white patch runs from centre of throat, through breast to belly.

Distribution

Pakistan, Kashmir, Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet. Winters in India.

Taxonomy

Subspecies[1]

Ficedula superciliaris superciliaris Himalayas (n Pakistan to Nepal and Sikkim); > to c India

Ficedula superciliaris aestigma Himalayas (Bhutan to se Tibet, sw China, Myanmar and n India)

Habitat

Hills and forests of oak, rhododendron, pine, fir, occasionally orchards.

Behaviour

The diet includes insects.

It builds a nest from fine moss with some strips of bark and fine grass, lined with hair and rootlets. 3 - 5, olive green to dull stone-buff, freckled all over with reddish brown eggs are laid.
