Perhaps not what you were hoping for, but a great picture. Of course, we have the advantage of not knowing how it was supposed to look, so we see a great, fluid and vibrant painting without prejudices.

Yes, thanks. Problem really is - I had a 'vision' but I could never really get it into focus and what I THINK I wanted was a loose painterly VanGogh-esue swirly colour-thingy which ALSO happened to have overtones of Liljefors at his most sublime with a bit of Bruce Pearson woven into the structure.
So -as you can see - it's,erm, not quite that . . . . .
I've got me coat . . .

I think that's called being caught between two schools...

I noticed that compared to early versions (or to the much admired Ringed Plovers) the brushstrokes are quite carefully placed to follow the contours of the rocks, which I guess takes it more towards yer Bruce n Bruno than yer Vincent.

cheeky

Popped out for a cheeky sketch this morning after dropping smallest child off at school. I feel a watercolour coming on (may never materialise, of course!).

ooooh! these are rather special, there'd better be a watercolour coming out of them - the wigeon and the oyk for example - seriously that wigeon is amazing! (oh, the divers are too!)

you'd better get busy then I want to see both! (Says the lazy sod who's going to have a nap before repainting a scene of attempted blackbird rape and then trying to sort out some bathing rooks)

Love the wheatear painting Tim...the colour and texture of the rocks is fantastic...

Warm, beautiful patterns and an amazing vibrancy to it...

Nice sketches too :) Looking forward to a work up of the divers and l-t ducks...

Another nice day . . .

I suppose a mixed day, really - Man U get knocked out of FA cup - BUT the Mighty Barnsley dispatch Chelsea and stride majestically into the Semis - England lose at rugger - but, as I'm Scottish dweller and also Scotland fan, manage to win anyway! (confusing, eh?)
Weather was nice out, but spent half the day in the pub and/or conservatory sports watching - BUT also had a crack at the aforementioned watercolour from the drawings made yesterday. It's ok - I suppose - bits I quite like . . . (watercolour 22"x15")
Cheltenham looming - probably last chance for an anti-post bet: Back Edward O'Grady's novice int the "Arkle" - it's name escapes me but it won't lose.

that's a watercolour and a half - I've got to get back into watercolour as a proper medium again, this is an expert example of what can be achieved. Superb stuff!

Of course, it is a superb watercolour, Tim, but I'm feeling a little crowded with this one. My eye keeps going directly to the center.

The only reason I can say this is because you know I feel your artistic ability makes you godlike in my eyes.

. . .

Cheers guys - I see what you mean Beth - I may look at this comp again (perhaps as a bright acrylic). The idea was to call it "Battleships and Bombs" - amusing to see these little ducks splashing down and diving amongst the sedate-looking battleships, the divers.
A couple of scribbles from the house this pm.
