Young Birder (2 Viewers)

Went to Denver Sluice today but it was relatively quiet. Saying that its a nice time of year just to slow down and take time to look at stuff in detail. There were several young birds around including 2 Egyptian geese (also 4 adults), 4 Mute cygnets, and a female Mallard with 9 ducklings!
Also of note were 2 Buzzards, 4 Lesser Whitethroats, 2 Shelduck, 1 Common Tern and 2 Kingfishers (one of which posed for a few shots!).
I also remembered that I hadn't posted my pictures of when I ringed 2 young Buzzards on Thursday!
More pics on my website...

Spotted Flycatcher, Lesser Whitethroat (didn't see the bugger though), Kingfisher on a walk today...and then some nice dry cider sitting in a pub as the sun was going down and swifts were screaming around the buildings.

What more could you want?

Got fantastic views of the Golden Orioles at Lakenheath today. The female was sitting on the nest (which apparently had young in it, but I didn't see them) and the male was coming back and forth with food. A bit distant so I didn't bother taking any photos. Also saw a Bittern and heard another one booming, 4 Hobby, 3 Marsh Harrier, Water Rail, etc.
Brilliant day and lovely weather too :t:

My week in wales with the RSPB added 11 birds to my life list:
Crossbill-Red Grouse-Tawny Owl-Redstart-Garden Warbler- Wood Warbler-Goshawk-Dipper- Merlin-Tree Pipit-Mistle Thrush.
And on the way back I dipped on Little bittern at Ham Wall, although I did get Bittern (normal) for my life list.
So 12 lifers in 6 days was quite good!

Black Duck would be a very nice addition. Good luck. It takes time and effort to increase a list, but you'll get there eventually! :t:

Hi all, Now back from Northumberland :-C. Had a brill time got loads of lifers and year ticks. On the way up we say to Red Kite around the leeds area (lifer). Nothing done to much the second day but the third day we went out to the Farnes Inner and Staple saw three new lifers Puffin, Shag and Kittiwake. Inner Farne was amazing Turn mopping u and crapping on you nothing can beat that. Oh and the smell. Fourth day went out to the hills saw a few more lifers Raven, Spot Fly, Ring Ouzel and Red Grouse. Fifth day we found an Osprey in Holy Island Dunes.

Better report with pictures coming soon on my web site.

Trip lifers: 8
Year: 13

Life list now: 205 (finally hit 200)
Year list: 175 (a bit better looking)

P.s. hav I missed much?

Some cracking pics there Robert. I'll be heading up to the Farnes soon, but sadly probably when the spectacle has started to diminish a little.

Just had nearly four hours of non-stop exams this morning: have spent this afternoon staring at the baby bullfinches in my garden as my brains dribble out from my ears!!!

Thanks. You might have a chance if you are going in two or three weeks because all the turn and auks were still on eggs when we went.
