When a new Zeiss binocular? (8 Viewers)

Yes, the absence of 7x32's from the birding binocular market puzzles me. Compared with an 8x32, such a bin would have the advantage of a bigger exit pupil, as well as the greater depth of field of a 7x, and potentially a significantly bigger field of view. And I am sure Zeiss could make a very nice 7x32.

Can't agree more about ease of eye placement. Best thing about 7x42 fl for eyeglass wearer is I can be pretty careless about eye placement compared with 8x32. Is this a function of exit pupil or eyepiece design? Do all 8x32 have same exit pupil-4mm, I think so.

But I need to point out that despite its smaller exit pupil, my 10x32 FL's ease of use is way better than my previous top bin, the Minox HG 8x33.
It means it cannot possibly be an effect of mere exit pupil size.

Allbinos definitely has the highest transmission figures (caveat +/- 3%). Most of the results I have seen from reading posts on this forum put the FLs at around 92% in daylight, with the x56 FL pushing 94%. ~95% sounds great. Lets see the transmission curve graph though...

Just try a pair. You'll see....

They need to make what the alpha world refuses to give us yet many want.

A compact 8 or 7 x25. 8x20's are too damm small of an objective. 20mm is small and dim. Cut the crap Zeiss and give us the performance we want.

And while you are at it make a proper pair of euecups for them. Just because the bin is half the diameter doesn't mean my eye's became half the size. The current eyecup encourages odd holding and back flair.

I modified mine to be about the size of a Pentax 9x28. I can stick my whole eye in there and get one perfect circle. They also come out about 3/8th's of inch further. (Still fit in the case too) They blow away the stock model. But I shouldn't have to be doing that to some of the worlds most expensive binoculars, these guys are supposed to know what they're doing.

Just received the Zeiss newsletter email....Conquest HD line is now on their USA website....

According to the Zeiss website, something with 95% light transmission is coming in March. Only 90% transmission is claimed for the Conquest HD's that have already been announced, so we're still left to guess at what this other thing is.

Any word on the interpupillary distance range of these new Conquests? The older ones are nice because they go down to 54mm (and the Victory 52mm). Most other bins only go to 56mm, which means some people (myself included) can't use them.

Zeiss has been good for low-IPD in the past, but since these seem to have a new body design I guess there's no guarantee.

I asked in the CameraLandNY SHOT thread, and Doug responded that the Conquest HDs still have a minimum IPD of 54mm. :)

I was sort of planning to pick up one of the old models once the new ones came out; I was almost hoping Zeiss had abandoned their low-IPD policy so I wouldn't be tempted to shell out the extra money for HDs. :p
