'Ethical' binocular companies (2 Viewers)

...and someone else once said...the source was an obscure ancient God, not sure which, but the command is still obeyed by some till this very day:

"Go forth my child and buy the most expensive binocular there is and give glory by shouting from
the hilltops that your bin is the best and your neighbor's sucks."

Well, friends, on this thread we've done ethics, politics, food and religion, so that almost wraps it up.

Anyone got anything to say about romance and spring is in the air etc ?

If you own the EL8.5X42SV you must do this or you would be lying, we all know where you go for lying.3:)

There has to be a paper somewhere or Ph.D. opportunity on how and why certain threads like this develop a life of their own and wander so far away from the original topic matter. Perhaps the controversial nature of the subject, the random selection of highly opinionated posters it attracts or just the serendipitous chance of one comment sparking a tangential debate all have a role to play. Whatever the case this one's come a long way from my original attention which was to draw attention to some information that a subset of folks here might find useful or illuminating.

A good proportion of threads on here wander off and gain a life of their own. You can view this as frustrating or one of the delights of Bird Forum.

I am actually glad that Blue Steve decided to let this thread run.

And John I salute you for managing to get 'serendipitous' and 'tangential' in the same sentence :t:

Lee,
I spent 15 years as a rep living in hundreds of hotels. A Cardiff hotel next to the main railway line, an Exeter motel where the cockerels woke me at 3.30 a.m. A large St. Ives hotel devoid of staff and guests. Only the ghosts of previous fellow travellers, who probably died of cold and starvation in the middle of winter.

I did see the Green Flash from Hartland Point with my 7x23 Charles Frank Nipole binocular, my constant companion.

For a young man the bizarre and sometimes wonderful experiences shaped me. I would not change this part of my life even if I could.
I visited most towns in Britain and many in Northern Europe.
I could write a book about a lost world.

Go to a pub with friends for drink and conversation. The same thing happens, human nature. Conversations are not technical manuals, personality becomes involved.

I once made the mistake of going out for drink with 3 of our computer techs at a large company I worked for a few years back, taking a lightning strike would have been a welcome change after the first two beers. Best i could tell, they didnt care for sports of any kind, no camping, hiking, nature must have been abhorrent, no bicycles, motorcycles, drove little economy boxs, appeared indifferent to members of the opposite sex all around them even though they were all single. I decided they pretty much thought about computers, that was their vocation as well as their hobby. After the third beer I headed back to the hotel, next night I had a few with a couple of our drivers. Much more enjoyable.

Me too B.

For some years I was driving 40,000 miles per year. I covered the whole UK and visited most Western Europe countries and two in Africa. It was an eye-opener. From the time I had to climb out of a back window of a Scottish hotel onto a fire escape and go to work in Glasgow without a breakfast because the chef who should have opened up the hotel and cooked breakfasts was in bed with the new waitress, to the occasion when I was a contributor to runnning up a bar bill in Amsterdam of just short of £1,000, there was never a dull moment.

Sort of similar thing happened to me at the Victoria Falls hotel in Zimababwe. I was there with my boss from the UK, an executive from an international company and the pilot of the private plane who had flown us up from South Africa.

On the table were 4 drinks ie 1 each. Two of the drinks were oddly coloured, with fruit and small umberellas in them. The other two, belonging to me and the pilot, were long beers. Guess who I spent most of the night chatting to?

It is a common trait in discussions where misinformation and ignorance are found.

Misinformation and ignorance are everywhere, its the human condition.

No doubt in my ingnorance I have misinformed others from time to time.
Hopefully I learn as I go along.
Hopefully, others do too.
