Micro Four-Thirds (13 Viewers)

You are not taping the pins, are you? Cleaned the contacts on everything? When you put the 1.4 on, does it show f/5.7 or f/8 in the viewfinder, or f/11 with the 2x?

Then I wouldn't worry about it. It seems to be working properly and that is the main thing.
Does the image data as seen on the camera display jive with the exif data on the computer? Does it show the same data with different programs/exif viewers?

It shows the same exifdata in olympus viewer 3 and on the camera display.

Maybe image stabilisation doesn´t get correct info for best performance...

I installed version 1.9 up to version 2.1, still didn´t give right lens data in exif...only 400mm shown. I removed the extender and put the 400mm lens on the MB (still mounted on camera), took a photo. removed the lens, put the extender on the lens again and then put it back on the MB(still mounted on the camera), took a photo, now it shows 800mm in exif data...works ok at last.

I don´t know why this didn´t work earlier, when i removed the extender, MB, etc.....maybe needs to be in combination with reinstalling the previous versions of firmware in order.....

I have been able to go back and forth between the various firmware versions without a problem. Nice to be able to do that. I hate it when you can't roll back to a previous, working version of anything. I also can put either the adapter on the camera first or on the lens first, but maybe there is a preferred way to do it. I am careful to always have the camera turned off when changing the TC etc, or removing the adapter. Maybe not necessary....?
I am sure you will keep an eye on it. Keep us posted.

Congrads on your purchase.

...
Extender was delivered. I immediately noticed the glass is damaged, lots of tiny yet clearly visible scratches. Raised a request for refund, let's see what the seller answers. I hate when this happens.

CRAP! I hate that. Good luck!

On the discussion of whether AF is better in silent or in AS=0, I did some testing, as there is nothing else to photograph at the moment here. As I suspected, I noticed no difference in the speed of the AF, but as the pictures with AS=0 looked slightly out of focus, generally soft, I did the same test in the same way but with MF. SAME result:

There is not enough movement to see as such, but there is enough to screw up the sharpness. These were done hand held, arm supported, and IS1 on.
Score one more point for the silent shutter.

I can't see much difference when looking at the markings on the nails. What distance ? Extender ? Delay ?

I sure can! The 5 with silent are all pretty much the same. Only the 3rd of the AS=0 has the same sharpness. No extender, hand held so no delay, straight real world shooting conditions. Distance about 25 meters.

I have repeated the sets several times, always the same result. These were at 1/125. I have done at 1/250 and 1/320, the limit of AS=0. Same result.
On my ISO test chart at about 15 meters, or on my AF test scale at about 10 meters, using a tripod and remote, there is no difference in the AF accuracy between silent or AS=0. Bang on every time.

I only looked closely at the 2 large photos and they seemed quite similar. Comparing AS=0 #2 and #3, I can see a small difference.

The seller has acknowledged my complaint and will issue a refund. Took a few pictures with the extender just to test and the results were quite pleasant, sharp but lacking some contrast. The IS worked great and focus acquisition reasonably fast, a bit depending on the target. And I have found another item, supposedly free from defects.

Good for you Tord. On eBay, sellers are usually quick to respond to problems because they are afraid of negative feedback. Only once did I have a problem: a Canon zoom badly packaged that arrived with serious damage - the seller didn't bother to respond... and I gave him negative feedback with a nasty comment - I didn't care because I only needed the tele-negative which was not damaged.

IMO, the 400mm works fine with the 1.4X Extender and it is nice to have a 560mm autofocus lens that small. I wish mine didn't have that focusing accuracy problem.

I sold the lens a few days ago and the buyer likes it a lot on his Canon 7D - no focusing problems at all. The EM-1 has no problem focusing either as the attached photo taken with my Panny 100-300mm shows - I took about 50 shots of those ducks at around 10 meters and focus was perfect on all of them.

I don't see how the MB adapter could be at fault since it is only software that translates data back and forth between the camera and the lens. I suspect my problem was due to +/- tolerance problems between the 3 components of the system.

I am now looking for a Panasonic 100-400mm but they are not easy to find.

Been practicing up on my (auto)-focusing skills ;) for our up-coming trip to Scotland end of the month. :t:

Ah, yes, the culinary delights of Mauerbach... B :)

All but the last one without TC, last with 1.4x. 1,2, and 4 at 1/125, 3 at 1/400, all hand held with my elbow on the window sill.

I think I found a bug. If you use the electronic shutter and set the ISO to Auto (on EM1), the camera uses 200 no matter what. Found out the other day when getting shake and motion blur when shooting in shades under the canopy, reviewed the pictures, noticed the shutter times and ISO 200.

Also, please note that high speed flash does not work with the silent shutter... I have not tested regular TTL flash.

Mercury transit.

Didn't have a solar filter, so I had to take advantage of one of the few clouds that passed in front of the sun. 1/16000 at f/8. The 400 on the E-M1. Wish I could have used the scope, but I figured the pros will get much better shots than anything I would be able to do.

You really get a feeling of how tiny Mercury is when it is right in front of the sun!
