    Massacre of Canada Geese

Canada Goose devon.birder, I do not know if the land owner acquired the necessary authorization. However, I do not believe in cruelty to animals. Canada Geese are beautiful birds and I can not imagine someone wanting to harm them. I know that here in the United States, that PETA got the...

This is one tall bird house!!!

Pam, thanks for your reply. It is tall house, that is for sure. It is designed specifically for Purple Martins. They actually have been sighted at the "Butt of Lewis" in Scotland. How far are you from there?

    Barred Owl calling in August?

Barred Owl sighting I just happen to be lucky enough to witness a large Barred Owl swoop out of the woods and flank the side of my house to snatch a tree frog. These frogs are attracted to the night lights. The Barred Owl's flight was absolutely silent. I just happen to be looking up when it...

Stink Bugs have taken over my Feeders

Stink Bugs have taken over my Feeders

Stink bugs do not like orange peel and orange peel is not harmful to birds. You just empty your feeders and clean them. You then take orange peels from several oranges and put them in the bottom, then you pour the seed on top.

    Barred Owl calling in August?

Once again, I heard them calling. This is very strange for this late in the year. I have a hard time believing it is territorial calls because it just goes on for what seems like hours. Samuel Wilson Tallahassee, Florida Bless the USA

    Barred Owl calling in August?

Luke, I was thinking the same thing. Last year, I don't recall hearing them during this time in August. The Florida Barred Owl's breeding season is supposed to usually wind down by late May or early July. I was hoping someone else who resided in Florida was hearing Florida Barred Owls currently...

    Barred Owl calling in August?

I was surprised to hear a Florida Barred Owl calling at 3:30 AM Friday morning, August 12, 2005. It was a pair of Florida Barred Owls calling between one another with their trade mark call that sounds like "Who cooks for you; who cooks for you all?" Has anyone else heard this owl calling...

    White-winged Cardinal

As always, I enjoy reading replies from everyone. I do believe that "partial leucism" is an acceptable form of slang, however, it is scientifically incorrect. Best of luck to everyone in your birding ventures.

    White-winged Cardinal

An albino bird lacks all pigments while a leucistic bird has a reduced intensity of pigmentation. If a bird has a reduced intensity of pigmentation over part of its body, then it is leucistic. If a bird has reduced intensity of pigmentation over most of its body, then it is still leucistic. In...

    White-winged Cardinal

The bird I have pictured in my original post has identical white wingbars on both wings and is a White-winged Cardinal. Here is a picture of a leucistic Northern Cardinal for comparison. Leucism is partial albinism, there is no such thing as "partial leucism" in a bird. Leucism in itself means...
