    Quince and House Sparrows

I hope this is the right place to ask the question. I have a Quince shrub in the garden. It's about 6' high and wide. House sparrows love it! You see them in it all year round. I was just wondering why? They seem active so I'm thinking they may be feeding on something the Quince hosts? Also the...

Can't find one anywhere, does anyone know where I can get one from? It doesn't have to be branded Leica as these are very expensive anyway. Thanks in advance.

    Canada X Greylag?

Picked this out of 50 Canada Geese on the local reservoir. Thicker shorter neck without the black and pinkish legs. I am I right in thinking this is a Canada, Greylag hybrid? Thanks.

    Recommended Camera repairer

Disaster struck a few months ago when my 5D got wet in a shower. Firstly I never realised that the sealing on this model was so poor. The 5D isn't a cheap model, however I was wrong to think it is well sealed. Took it in to Lehmanns at Stoke as I live quite near. When they got around to looking...

Raptor ID Staffordshire above a retail park.

Hi At first I thought it was a common Buzzard. It was mobbed by other birds before flying out of view. A closer look showed it to be a very pale bird with a Harrier like tail and didn't strike me to be your avarage looking Buzzard. After a while I noticed it had gained height and was joined by...

Pale Willow/Marsh Tit. Staffs. April 08

I took these photo's late April last year and I'd forgot about them. What struck me at the time was the colour, almost white chest and underparts. Not really typical of a UK marsh or willow tit. The photo's are not very sharp but they're not over-exposed. My Collins guide indicates european...

House or Juv Tree Sparrow, England

90% of me says this is a house yet what struck me when I saw it was it's very distinct chocolate coloured head behind the eye. The grey forhead suggests a house but can be I believe seen on a juvenile Tree. The black bib is very small that suggests a Tree also, maybe?:-O Bright yellow bill is...

    Peregrine behavior.

A question folks. I came across a headless feral pigeon by a church today (gruesome sight) The head was about 10 feet away. Nothing about, but looking up I noticed feathers floating down. Stepping away from the church there was a Peregrine feeding on what I presume was another pigeon. My...

    UK Staffs farmland Finch?

I'm rather new to birding. I think this shot is of a Juvenile Goldfinch but according to my birding book a juvenile has streaky chest markings, so I'm not 100% sure and late November I would've thought it may have adult plummage by now......or maybe it's not a Goldfinch? Many thanks

    Vignetting problem

Hi I have the Canon 100-400 lens that worked really well on my 400D. I've upgraded the camera to a 5D. Now I'm getting noticable vignetting when using this lens. Is this due to the full frame sensor? Closing the Apperture to F7.1 or smaller solves the problem but that's not always possible...

    Which Warbler? Staffs, England.

Taken today at a lakeside. Plenty of Reed Warblers that you can see from this location but this chap seemed distinctly more yellow and a bit bigger than the norm. Thanks.

    BOP, Staffs, England

Very new to birding and need a bit of help with this one! Small bird, smaller perhaps than a Sparrowhawk. In flight it had very dark upper wings. Looking through the bins it had a distinct white neck with black below the eye, which isn't very clear in the photo. It was flying for food about...

    Hello from North Staffs.

Hi all. I've read quite a few posts from people who live around my part of the world in old threads through googled searches, so I guess I'm not alone on here! I live near Newcastle-u-Lyme, Chesterton to be exact. I'm a real novice at birding. I've become interested though through photography...
