    Digiscoping with the Nikon V1

Mike , Both would work fine and would be a little sharper than the 10-30. the 18.5mm being the sharpest. Neil.

That was a nice sighting for the V1 Dave. Well done. Neil.

    Digiscoping with the Nikon V1

I've shot the V1V2 with all lenses just hanging off the adapter with no problem. Switch to Electronic Shutter though - at least 10fps. I do like the Kowa support bracket though but it does make viewing through the eyepiece more difficult. Neil

    Digiscoping with the Nikon V1

Dave, Either the 11-27.5 or the 18.5 will do a good job but I would lean towards the 18.5. Keep the D7100 for the other stuff. Neil.

    Digiscoping with the Nikon V1

The 18.5 mm is certainly a better lens ( fixed lenses normally are) but the 11-27.5 mm zoom is also a better choice. Neil.

Sander There is no need to remove the eyecup. Neil.

    Digiscoping with the Nikon V1

Mark The DA series of adapters come with various threads http://www.acecameras.co.uk/optics/digiscoping/kowa-adapter-rings-for-da1-da10-adapters So you can choose the appropriate one for your application. I like to standardise on 52 mm , so I have 52 mm rings on all my Kowa adapters as...

    Digiscoping with the Nikon V1

Mariusz The 40.5/58 adapter screws into the front of the lens and then you screw it onto the DA10 You should be able to get a 52 mm thread for the DA10 too. Neil

    Digiscoping with the Nikon V1

Dave the 10-30 mm is a tight fit on the DCB11 so the newer 11-27.5 is a better option or the 18.5 mm. I prefer the TLS APO for video as I like the manual focus. For faster action of feeding ducks and shorebirds I like to use auto focus. The DCB11 is good for this. Neil

    Digiscoping with the Nikon V1

I like to shoot in Electronic fast mode in short bursts. I find a remote a bit restricting, especially when tracking fast moving feeding birds. Neil.

    Simple solution. Nice. Neil.

    Digiscoping with the Nikon V1

I haven't had a problem with doing it this way, although you do have the problem of lens creep. I do like the UCA/DCB 11 type adapters so that I can adjust the position of the camera/lens as I zoom the camera lens and the zoom eyepiece to minimise vignetting. Neil.

    Digiscoping with the Nikon V1

Welcome to the Group. For iso performance the Sony RX 100 and RX100 M2 and the Sony Nex 6 & 7 and the Panasonic GH3 and GX7 are better than the V1/V2. I haven't found it too much of a problem in average to good light but under canopy or on cloudy days it is nice to be able to use iso 800/1600...

    Digiscoping with the Nikon V1

I took the V1 and the Nex 6 out with me today. I hadn't used the V1 for a while. It had the 11-27.5 mm lens. Once again I found this combo on the Swarovski STX 95 mm Scope to be a bit much when digiscoping spoonbills and egrets at 15 - 25 meters. I never thought I would have a problem of too...

    Digiscoping with the Nikon V1

Neil, Glad to see another Neil in the Forum. I recently started a V2 thread in this Forum using the 18.5 mm lens. No vignetting with any of the eyepieces I've tried. Same on the V1 . It's a nice lens and I now prefer it to the zoom lenses. If I need more magnification I just zoom the...

    Digiscoping with the Nikon V1

I'm sure it's a nice lens, especially for portraits, but it's magnification (32 x 2.7 = 87 mm ) would be too much for most eyepieces. On a 20 - 60 zoom it's range would be 1740 - 5220 mm . I like to start digiscoping around 1200 mm and up to 3,000 mm is maneagable in most situations , but over...

    Digiscoping with the Nikon V1

I was looking back over some shots from 2011 and found one of my early shots with the V1. I was so close and there was a bit of vignetting with the 10mm lens that needed cropped out. Here is the original size and the cropped version. There was some discussion about the id as it could have been...

    Digiscoping with the Nikon V1

Gerard, It's not a standard ring so you'll have to buy one off the internet if you don't have a serious camera store nearby. Neil.

    Digiscoping with the Nikon V1

Very well Gerard. The V1 lenses have a 40.5 thread so you need a converter to 52 mm. Hanging the camera off a straight scope wasn't a problem for me. Neil

Alan Time for you to read the manual. The lens focus in MF mode is the dial around the OK button. You circle it in a clockwise or anticlockwise direction. Neil.

    Digiscoping with the Nikon V1

Alan After selecting MF in the menu you press the OK button and digital zoom kicks in to make it easy to focus either the camera lens or the scope. The camera does get hot and sometimes when shooting video it switches off for about 20 mins to cool down. Neil

    Digiscoping with the Nikon V1

Alan Don't panic. There is a MF Mode. Go to MENU and look for FOCUS MODE - MF is the last option. No dedicated Macro Mode though but the lenses do focus close. Neil.
