problem with 20D & compact flash card-help! (1 Viewer)

David Smith

I have a 2nd hand (very good condition) 20D with Transcend 1GB compact flash.
While using it a few days ago it flashed up "error" message and wouldn't operate. Eventually after removing the battery etc. it resolved itself.
When I got home and put the card in the USB reader it only showed up about 60% of the shots. I put the card back in the camera and connected the camera up and it showed them all.
Next day it was the same problem i.e. card in the USB reader and it only showed up approx 50%. Back in the camera they all show up.
I don't know if the "error" message was coincidental or connected.
Has anyone had similar problems?
Do you think it's the card or USB reader ?
Any help appreciated.

If you have the cable, try downloading your pics to your PC straight from the camera (or use a different card reader) and see if the problem is solved; if not, format your card, take some shots and download them again ... if the problem is still there, try another card (different make?) and see what happens ...
Cheers,
Max

There is some info on recovering data from cards on the main camera forum. I had to do it once and took it to a specialist camera shop but you can download the required software from t'Internet as well. Once I'd recovered the pics, I formatted the card and had no further problems.
