Oystercatchers

Sometimes you are at the right spot at the right time. First time I've managed to come this close to Oystercatchers, they are usually weary. Even more remarkable the fact I have never seen Oystercatchers at this location that I have visited quite a few times. The water is not sea, not lake, it is flooded meadows 40 km from nearest coast where the birds are found.

The two first are uncropped. The third is cropped, shame they took off to the next bar to do their thing, the angle is more against the low standing sun. I should perhaps have added a TC but did not want to fiddle and miss the action.

Neat ! Congrads

Too much reach

Taking off the TC would have costed me too much time, so I leaned back and still had issues getting the entire subject inside frame while paying attention at focus... Some clipped legs are not the end of the world.

Hi,

now I also an owner of a astro telescope - it is a TS Optics 90 mm ED Apo Refraktor 90/500mm. I use it with the Olympus OMD-EM 10 + 2x Powermate Barlow lense(approx. 2400mm). Here my first results with this equipment.

For all user a scope or telescope is to heavy - please look in the Nikon P900 thread. I also try this camera and the results are pretty good.

regards,
Mario

Moin Mario!
Pretty good! Where did you see Avocets this time of year? Wattenmeer?
A friend of mine has a P900, and as long as the light is good, the results are impressive! Amazing quality for such a tiny sensor!

Hi DanC.Licks,

yes during this time you find Avocets on Wattenmeer.

Good light you also need by classical digiscoping - and the P900 has autofocus,, a little weight and an interesting zoomrange up to 2000mm.

regards,
Mario

Nice pics. We get one of the largest UK over wintering flocks of Avocets very close to where I live, just a few miles away. They number around 1500 birds.

Eurasian Wigeon

At last... my first scope photo this year. This is a very rare catch here in Quebec. Photographed at Baie-du-Febre among Snow Geese and American Wigeons. Not a great photo but a nice souvenir. Would not have been possible without the scope.

SW80ED - EM-1 - ISO 800 - 1/1600 sec. - > 100 m. - Serious crop.

Great photo or not doesn't mater. Always a thrill to get something unusual even that good.
We get some Wigeons here too, but they seem to be a bit different. Never gotten an really good picture of them. Usually just too far away.

Right you are! I got confused....:egghead:

I just shoot the pictures. My wife is responsible for identification, and I neglected to ask. I'll check and see if we have seen a Wigeon.

Couple of Dunnocks taken with my large stripped down Pentax 6X7 Vivitar 2X TC. Only very slight cropping from around 8 or 9m range.

Close up of a female Blackbird only from about 4m range. The breeding pair in the garden are quite tame and tolerate me in the garden to quite a degree. Often they will come close, maybe just 6 feet away. Taken with the stripped down Pentax 6X7 Vivitar 2X TC. Might try and get hold of some other medium format TC's, quite a few different brands in the 645 and 6X7 formats.

A couple from yesterday to give my 1.4x Extender III a try with my Canon 400/5.6 on the E-M1.

The E-M1 IS works great with this lens, even with the TC on it, whereas it doesn't work at all with the 600mm scope. Too much mass.

That 6x7 TC looks pretty good, don't you think?

The first one is RRRReallYYYY sharp. The 400mm Canon is known for being extremely sharp.
