Coney Meadow and Adjoining Areas (7 Viewers)

3 Groppers present (at least) - a further one towards the middle of the reedbed. They probably arrived overnight as it was quiet yesterday evening and the conditions didn't seem too bad. Having said that, they are very unpredictable when they first arrive.

A few brief bursts of Grasshopper Warbler song near the East Gate this evening.
A Snipe flew out at dusk
A Kingfisher flew over

Noctule and Pipistrelle bats
 
2 Grasshopper Warblers singing this morning - 1 from Coney reedbed and the other from the adjacent canal.
3 Sedge Warblers Coney Meadow plus singles near Tapenhall and Linacre Bridge
Reed Warblers in various places - including Tapenhall pool
Common Whitethroat Coney Meadow
5 House Martins over near Mildenham plus another near Lucy's Wood
Swallows in various places - 3 Coney, 3 Porter's Mill plus singles in various other places
10+ singing Willow Warblers
3 Gadwall around Tapenhall
6+ Greylags around Tapenhall and Mildenham

1 Orange Tip and a few Peacock butterflies.
 
The Hooded Crow was only seen in flight but was seen well and appeared very cleanly marked - as good as any I've seen in Scotland or Greece. Must be a rare occurrence in Worcestershire these days.

A Lesser Whitethroat sang a couple of times near Tapenhall farm - new for year.
A pair of Egyptian Geese with 6 young goslings on flooded area near Moat Farm (or are they technically ducklings? - looked very similar to Shelduck young) - so confirmed breeding of this species (not sure how significant that is).
Redpoll over near Knight's Grovr
A singing Grasshopper Warbler at Coney again this morning.

Common Whitethroats at Coney Meadow and along Sinton Lane.
4 Sand Martins over near New Mill plus others near Chatley
Swallows
Still good numbers of Willow Warblers - including 5 Knights Grove.

2 Shelduck flew down the valley this morning - viewed from Coney Meadow
Swallows and House Martins feeding over New Mill sewage plant - about half a dozen of each.

Common Whitethroat singing near the railway bridge along Copcut Lane
 
Limited birding opportunities this morning but had a really nice view of a singing Lesser Whitethroat along Chawson Lane.

1 singing Willow Warbler near Ladywood

Hi Andris,

You can view them from Sinton Lane near Moat Farm SO849627 - there is a flooded section of a grassy field. Viewing from the gate is usually OK but they can go out of view as the land undulates in front of the flooded area.
