Cuckoo? Oman (1 Viewer)

Well-known member
This bird was at an oasis at the end of Wadi Ash Shuwaymiyah, in Dhofar in the South of Oman in December.

Is it a Common Hawk Cuckoo?

Sorry for the quality of the photos!

Thanks!
Louis

Yes, it is - an adult. This is a vagrant in Oman, with only three previous records.

Have you sent these images to Jens Eriksen?

Hi Andy, thanks for the response - knew it was a vagrant but didn't realise hawk cuckoo was that rare in Oman! Will send the pictures to Jens Eriksen today.

Yep, have a look at Dominic Mitchell's Rare Birds in the WP, and the new Shirihai WP book due later this year will include all of Arabia. Yay!
