G9 or GH5? (1 Viewer)

I am looking to upgrade from my Canon Powershot SX50 (which I've had great fun with) and I'm looking at the Panasonic G9 or GH5. Any views on which would be the best choice for general birding, including birds in flight? Budget for camera body is up to £1000. B

I would go G9 over the original GH5 because it has received some firmware updates (improving AF) that the original GH5 to the best of my knowledge is not able to receive. The GH5-ii would possibly be better than the G9 but likely outside your budget.

Take a look at this thread for more info on the firmware update: New firmware promised including the video linked to in post #3.

Disclaimer: I have not upgraded but am still using the older and cheaper G85. I have had some good in flight shots but the updated G9 should be better.

Which lens are you thinking about?

Definitely go for the G9 - it is much better for BIF than lesser Panasonics - my partner has one which I use from time to time. Also, coming from my Nikon D7200 I find the top display really useful too, I'd imagine you'd wonder how you did without one before.
