Identify raptor by tail in Chicago (2 Viewers)

I watched a raptor circling over a pond near Lake Michigan and while I could not see any of its coloration, I did note that the tail feathers were not fanned out but rather drawn together to form a rectangle.
What bird was this?
 
We could guess but to be honest it's impossible to say for sure. Depending on circumstances, even raptors with rounded or forked tails can hold them in a way that makes them appear squared.
