I wholly agree that "racism" and "racial discrimination" should not be bandied about willy nilly. They are serious charges, but we should never be afraid to level them at people who's behaviour warrants it. Countless times Sushil has departed from attacking the imperialistic behaviour of the 'West', a valid point which, in honesty, I cannot disagree with, but then moves over to attacking the people who live in the 'West'. This is where he moves into racism. There does seem to be a reluctance, understandable, given the history of the 'West', to acknowledge racism in other cultures. I'm not sure if it's because of "cultural relativity" or guilt.

Racism is a very serious charge and in my opinion shouldn't be bandied about lightly.

"The United Nations Convention on Elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination" states

"the term "racial discrimination" shall mean any distinction, exclusion, restriction, or preference based on*race, colour,*descent, or national or*ethnic*origin that has the purpose or effect of nullifying or impairing the recognition, enjoyment or exercise, on an equal footing, of*human rights*and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural or any other field of public life."

This seem to apply in this case.

The title of my article / thread says "Industrial Society Destroys Mind and Environment"

Here "Industrial Society" refers to all industrialized countries of the world, not the west alone.

Whenever I have criticized the west it is not without reason.

The west started Industrial Revolution and played the biggest role in spreading Industrial Activity all over the world during the era of colonization.....It destroyed native cultures and forced western lifestyle on its colonies in Asia, Africa and America.

This is a fact.

If I have criticized the west in other posts without any valid reason then kindly let me know when and where I did that.

This is a forum on conservation..... Instead of wasting time on racism people should focus on discrimination against millions of other species.

This planet is home to millions of species not just man alone.

You labelled members of certain Western countries as junked up beggars, yet when asked if you believed those in the squalor of the slums in your own country are in a better position, you chose to simply deflect the comment by throwing in the comment "your ancestors played a big role in that".

Get real, your 'facts' in virtually everything you post are laughable. In all your posts, I have still yet to see you advance one solution or step forward. You list your profession as 'environmental activism', yet actually say nothing other than a mindless rant. Let's face it, if you can't persuade anybody on an environmentally-related forum such as this, you stand next to no chance of influencing anybody that would be in a position to take steps (not that you have actually provided any steps!).

It's a conservation forum, however you have yet to move beyond just stating over and over again that industrialization is bad. I don't think anyone disagrees with you that Industrialization has caused some major environmental problems.

The problem is that you have yet to actually propose any sort of solutions. Saying we should give it up is all well and good, but sorry, won't happen. Too many people enjoy modern medicine, electricity, the internet, affordable long distance travel, etc., and that doesn't even get into how with current population levels we couldn't go back to a pre-industrial lifestyle without a reduction in human population of billions of people.

Wouldnt moving back to the agrarian society you seem to propose, be discrimination in its own right? Human waste has to be dealt with. Settling ponds and holes in the ground alone, will accomplish little. A compromise is required here, dont you think? We can do little about the past but try to remedy the wrongs. By using the technologies available now and in the future. It's my general impression there is no compromise by yourself in that regard. Just a return to the same old, tired, rhetoric.

Something that I've noticed in America and that I'm quite proud of is our notion of National Parks - then other preserved lands. This, starting in 1872 (Yellowstone) - then flowering forth. True, we rubbed out the locals and chopped and shot all kinds of things - but as our country Industrialized (and became rich) we had the luxury (then) and forethought to preserve lands. Also, preservation not just for human use - but for preservation in itself. I can see perhaps this happening in Malay Borneo. Sure - it's ugly what's happening now - but as that country get richer - and hopefully less corrupt - there will be more preservation. Rich people like Parks. If people want to get racist - lets sling some shit at the Chinese. Things be gettin' klazy as they get richer.

A pure non-industrial society is not possible now because Industrialization has increased world population to 7 billion.......World population increased from 1 billion in 1800 to 7 billion in just about 200 years after industrialization.......In the absence of industrialization world population would have been less than 2 billion today.

If we want to save the remaining environment we must minimize the things that are destroying environment.

At present we are destroying environment for Food, Clothing, Shelter plus Thousands of Industrial consumer goods and services.

We must eliminate the things that were added last to the list......which means Thousands of consumer goods and services, most of which have existed for only about 100 years out of Hundreds of Thousands of years of Total Human Existence on earth .........these have to be eliminated.

We are approaching Environmental Apocalypse.......The only way to save the remaining environment is by stopping Industrial Activity for production of consumer goods and services immediately........Industrial Activity must be primarily limited to food, clothing and shelter.......and even in these three fields production and consumption must be kept to the minimum.
