Kingfishers "In Tandem" (1 Viewer)

Reformed "Bird Ignorer"!
Just a question... a couple of nights ago a pair of Kingfisher 'side by side' seen flying together at a nearby canal (I'm in the U.K. by the way).

My question then, is this common or not, I've only ever seen 'solitary' Kingfisher before rather than seeing an 'aerial duet'.

Anyone else ever seen this?

Neil.

Could be one of several things; Adult being pursued by a juvenile after food. Juvenile being chased by a parent, after the young become independent the adults forcibly eject them from their territory. Adult chasing off an intruder, kingfishers can be nasty to each other. Could have been two juveniles which had been perched together and disturbed by a predator. I'm sure there could be a hundred other explanations bu my money would be on the first, given the time of year. The adults start ignoring the young's cries for food to force them into learning how to fish for themselves.

Great to see two together anytime!

Mike
