Paul's 2023 Photographic World List (1 Viewer)

Another successful day. Day twelve ended with a trip list of 446 of which I have photographed slightly over 400. As the rain beats down outside, it suggests that day thirteen may be unlucky. We will see what can be salvaged. The forecast suggests that the rain is here all day.

When I get back, I intend to work my way through the bird photos to upload to eBird checklist by checklist & then update the species list starting from 175 as at 12th February day by day.

For now, just trying to keep on top of eBird checklists generally and a rough estimate of species photographed. eBird total including heards is 473 and a total of 430 species photographed approximately as at last night. A handful added this morning. We leave La Selva today for Arenal. Two days there and back to San Jose.

A few pics
Chestnut-colored Woodpecker
Long-tailed Tyrant
Black-faced Grosbeak
Snowy Cotinga (female)
Cinnamon Woodpecker
Rufous-winged Woodpecker
White-necked Puffbird
King Vulture
Broad-billed Motmot
Spotted Antbird
Stripe-throated Wren
Band-tailed Barbthroat
Short-tailed Nightjar
Grey-rumped Swift
Chestnut-sided Warbler
White-collared Manakin
Red-throated Ant-tanager
Fasciated Antshrike
Rufous Mourner
Rufous Motmot

It will be interesting to go through the "learning experiences" (mistakes!) from the photos - especially as operating on my phone and back of camera!

All the best

Paul

Pics downloaded and editing will begin tomorrow or Monday... It will be interesting to see how many identifications fall by the way side and how many "record" shots do not make it into eBird. Currently, my yearlist sits at 689 on eBird including all unphotographed birds and "heards" and anticipating the photo yearlist will climb to 600+ as a result when the exercise is complete. The analysis of the gap will be interesting.

Maybe the chance to add a bird or two during the week before the Costa Rica exercise is complete as well though diary quite busy for a couple of weeks.

All the best

Up for a rather entertaining afternoon at The Emirates so after an overnight locally, I took in the Stanborough Park Little Bunting in Hertfordshire. Numbers in due course after the Costa Rican catch up!

All the best

Paul
Is the Little Bunting a long stayer Paul? I'm flying into Luton at the end of the month and it's a bird |I've not seen.

If you look on hnhs.org it has reports of the birds seen in Hertfordshire.
It has also been recorded a few times in the last few days on Ebird, it was ringed on 21st of Feb so has been there a little while

Good luck if you try Chris. I parked here:-

And walked south along the car boot field to an area of bushes around a green feeder here:-

It took a bit of patience.

Having finished organising my Costa Rican photos into sets by each eBird checklist, I treated myself to a trip up the road to Slimbridge where the White-rumped Sandpiper came a bit closer at nearly 5pm - just before kicking out time. I had it all to myself for the last hour on South Lake. For nearly all of the three hours that I was there, it was mobile and distant. I will add the yearlist number in due course!

Now to checklist number one on 15th February...

All the best

So sixteen days of Costa Rican photos to edit. With a push, I may get to the end of day one tomorrow & get the numbers moving....

In the meantime, in a year with a significant dearth of white rumps amongst our local finch flocks, I caught up with Brambling for the photo yearlist this afternoon.

All the best
