This looks quite like a Red-veined Darter to me, but not quite. The thorax seems a little different.

Do you think it is one?

Certainly not Red-veined Darter. I have done a birding trip to the Gambia but didn't really look much at Odonata. There is a FB group Dragonflies of The Gambia & Senegal, so if you don't get any joy here post it there.

Urothemis assignata maybe? I am reasonably convinced it's the right genus.
