Trapped last night, big catch for me, 78/19 species. Nothing NFY, sadly: part of the reason for trapping was that a friend from Hertfordshire caught a Clifden Nonpareil the previous night: last night he had another one!!

Numbers:

White-point 3
Square-spot Rustic 16
Common Wainscot 2
Large YUW 15
LBBYUW 4
Vines Rustic 17
Shuttle-shaped Dart 2
Flounced Rustic 4
Small Quaker 4
Setaceous Hebrew Character 2

Hard to nominate BOR but perhaps the single Cabbage.

John

I don't often do this but I just had a peer at the moth trap through the window and there were three Jersey Tigers on it. One is now in the fridge just in case the others fly away rather than going into the trap, or the Robin gets them before I get up! NFY 😁

John

OK, the full morning report. 103 individual moths of 32 species, pretty awesome for my trap: three NFY, the aforementioned Jersey Tigers, a superb Red Underwing and a Rosy Rustic.

Numbers:

Jersey Tiger 3
August Thorn 2
Small Quaker 7
Mother of Pearl 2
Square-spot Rustic 8
Setaceous Hebrew Character 6
LBAM 3
Vines Rustic 9
Large YUW 18
White-point 4
Flame Shoulder 6
Flounced Rustic 7
Shuttle-shaped Dart 4
BBYUW 3
Pale Mottled Willow 2
Maiden's Blush 2
Brimstone Moth 2

BOR Green Carpet, Lesser Swallow Prominent and Angle Shades.

John

Another fairly lively session last night, nearly all the usual suspects but Common Wainscot was my first of the year. Also a very smart looking Spectacle, quite dark, but unfortunately not Dark. And for those who appreciate a it of variation, a Garden Carpet showing quite reduced dark markings, shown here with a more regular specimen (also from last night), had me scratching my head for a bit.

Apologies in my turn, beer talking a bit last night I think. A quick look in the field guide at both illustration and text suggests you are right and I have been careless. Thank you for the suggestion! Records will be amended.

Cheers

John

Back late from the pub so missed all the early fliers last night: only 30 of 13 spp, I suspect as a direct consequence.

Numbers:

Square-spot Rustic 7
Lesser YUW 3
Flounced Rustic 2
Vines Rustic 7
Large YUW 7

BOR Bright-line Brown-eye

John

22 moths of 13 species last night, but 4 species new for the year. Acleris aspersana, Black Rustic, Brown-spotted Pinion and my 2nd ever Frosted Orange. LYU and LBBYU down to just 2 each, but 3 Canary-shouldered Thorns were a surprise, normally I only get one at a time.

Two NFY in the trap this morning, which was good: out of 85 individuals of 23 species, singles of Burnished Brass and Snout moved the year list on. Unfortunately the Snout shot off before I could get a picture, spoiling my recently acquired 100% photographed status!

Numbers:

Brimstone Moth 3
Light Emerald 3
Willow Beauty 2
Large Yellow Underwing 12
Flounced Rustic 5
LBBYUW 2
Square-spot Rustic 21
Vines Rustic 16
Lesser YUW 2
Setaceous Hebrew Character 3
BBYUW 3
Flame Shoulder 3

BOR probably the first Dusky Thorn for a while.

John

An exceptional night last night with two Clifden Nonpareils and a Cydia Amplana to my garden actinic. Overall yearlist building towards 800. Pearly Underwing locally at the weekend and an Old Lady in my garden.

All the best

Paul

Some frustration last night, with a Red Underwing that spent it's entire visit bipping around underneath next door's eves, without ever coming down low. Technically I've photographed it, but it doesn't feel like it!! My only previous Red Underwing was back in 2017, way back before I started trapping, photographed on the back wall.
A considerable amount of compensation was provided by a Coxcomb Prominent, sitting on the ground beneath the trap, a life tick!
In other news, Large Yellow Underwing numbers are decreasing (17), Copper Underwing numbers are on the up (13). Setaceous Hebrew Character made a good showing with 8 and Small Phoenix & Straw Dot provided variety.

Two Nonpareils together is amazing such a cracking moth

49 moths of 16 species last night, it stayed quite warm, 14.7C, and was damp so a decent night for moths. Quite an autumnal selection with 9 Black Rustic, 3 Sallow, 2 Frosted Orange, 4 Brown-spot Pinion and 5 Green-brindled Crescent - NFY. A single Haworth's Minor was also NFY and the first since September 2013. Also a fairly late Suspected and just the one LBBYU.

A tick for me this morning I think - Vine's Rustic, if I've got it right. Black Rustic & Frosted Orange were NFY, I managed a decent pic of a Red-green Carpet for the first time this year, and Hawthorn Moth (Scythropia crataegella) was a micro tick.
