Hello
I'm wondering about this crossbill - may the big croak, head and quite massive beak indicate a parrot?
Today , south Poland. Or ss it just my delusion

Hello Michal,

not a confident comment, just to bump this interesting bird up.

  • First: do you have more pictures?
  • I agree with you, head seems large and square, but bill shape seems to change within the different pictures. You know, this problem is one of the main difficulties in confident ID (on pictures).
  • Pro Parrot Crossbill seems the square, cubic shape of the bill, although the upper mandible seems slightly too evenly curved. And the bill might well be larger in relation to the head= I need ID-friendlier birds that I can ID with confidence.
Conclusion? After looking at discussions on another german birdforum and the juvenile Common Crossbill in the Collins birdguide, I realized, that I cant ID your bird with confidence.

I hope for more comments and pictures. Thanks!

Thanks Alex for your comment and feedback. I am sending the rest of the photos I have, in some photos it seems that the beak is "blunt".
