Crete Birding (1 Viewer)

My wife has taken a shine to a late autumn holiday in Crete this year (teachers plan well in advance) and I would like to take advantage of any birding opportunities that there might be. Taking into account that we will probably be on a package where is the best part of the island to be located and where might I get some information on good sites?

I've checked out a couple of trip reports but mostly these are fairly dated so it's clearly not a real birding hotspot; is there any source of more recent information?

Thanks

Thanks John

A very useful site.

On another tack I had considered buying the guide by Stephanie Coghlan but this seems to have received mixed reviews to say the least. Has anyone else referred to this book?

Hi Alf,

I've sent you an e-mail with a contact in Crete who I think might be helpful.

I bought the Coghlan book before my trip to eastern Crete and didn't find it terribly helpful but it is better than nothing, which is the only other alternative, I think!

Regards,

David
